CNC Programmer Supervisor

Summary: The CNC Programmer Supervisor role oversees CNC programming workflow, supervising tool room personnel, develops advanced toolpaths, mentors programmers, and partners closely with engineering, quality, and production to ensure efficient, accurate, and safe machining processes.

The CNC Programmer Supervisor will:
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop CNC Programmers and Toolroom Attendants at varying skill levels.
  • Review, approve, and optimize CNC programs for 3‑, 4‑, and 5‑axis machining centers.
  • Assign programming tasks based on production priorities and skill sets.
  • Develop advanced toolpaths using CAM software (Mastercam, Gibbscam, Fusion 360, Esprit, etc.).
  • Troubleshoot machining issues related to programs, tooling, or process flow.
  • Collaborate with engineering on drawings, GD&T, manufacturability, and process planning.
  • Standardize programming templates, tool libraries, and revision control procedures.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts to reduce cycle time, scrap, and downtime.
  • Support machinists during setups, first‑piece inspections, and program prove‑outs.
  • Maintain documentation, program archives, and tooling data for audit readiness.
  • Participate in hiring, onboarding, and performance evaluations for Programmers and Toolroom Attendants.
  • Actively participate in production planning and scheduling meetings to align programming priorities with business and operational objectives.
  • Foster strong cross-functional collaboration with engineering, quality, and production to improve communication, resolve issues, and enhance overall process efficiency.
  • Lead and facilitate regular team meetings to communicate priorities, drive accountability, and ensure alignment across the programming and tooling team.
  • Drive team accountability for meeting production deadlines, quality standards, and continuous improvement goals.


Education and/or Experience:
  • Associate degree or technical certification in machining or manufacturing.
  • 5+ years of CNC programming experience (CAM + G‑code).
  • Strong proficiency with CAM software (Mastercam, Fusion 360, Esprit, GibbsCAM, etc.).
  • Experience with multi‑axis programming (3‑7 axis mills and lathes).
  • Experience with ERP/MRP systems and revision control processes.
  • Experience with Siemens and Heidenhain CNC controls.
  • Experience in a large manufacturing environment.



Qualifications:
  • Deep understanding of machining principles, tooling, feeds, speeds, and materials.
  • Strong understanding of tooling, feeds & speeds, different materials and machining principles.
  • Ability to read and interpret complex blueprints and GD&T.
  • Prior leadership, team‑lead, or mentoring experience.
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Industrial/manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and material handling.
  • Requires use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel‑toe boots.
  • May require overtime or weekend work depending on production needs.
