Summary: The Saw Room Operator is responsible for safely and accurately operating saws and related cutting equipment to process materials according to production specifications. This role ensures proper measurements, quality standards, and workflow efficiency while maintaining a clean and safe work environment.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Operate band saws and other cutting equipment to cut materials to specified lengths and dimensions.
  • Set up machines, adjust settings, and verify proper blade selection for each job.
  • Monitor equipment during operation to ensure accuracy and safe performance.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting and adjustments as needed.
  • Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and production schedules.
  • Measure, mark, and prepare raw materials prior to cutting.
  • Load and unload materials using forklifts, cranes, or other handling equipment (if applicable).
  • Organize cut materials for delivery to the next production stage.
  • Inspect materials before and after cutting to ensure accuracy and quality.
  • Verify measurements using calipers, tape measures, and other precision tools.
  • Report defects, inconsistencies, or equipment issues to supervisors.
  • Complete production logs, material usage records, and quality check forms.
  • Communicate job status, delays, or material shortages to supervisors.
  • Assist with inventory counts and material tracking as needed.

Education and/or Experience:
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience operating industrial saws or working in a manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Forklift and crane experience.
Qualifications:
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, work orders, and measurement tools.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Forklift or crane certification is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and stand for extended periods.
  • Industrial/manufacturing setting with exposure to noise, moving machinery, and material handling.
  • Requires use of PPE such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and steel‑toe boots.
  • May require overtime or weekend work depending on production needs.
